On January 30, 2026, ITSI Biosciences had the privilege of hosting Mr. Jim Miliauskas, District Director for Pennsylvania State Senator Wayne Langerholc, Jr., and Michelle Cully, PhD, Life Sciences Economic Development Specialist at the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development. They toured the facility and discussed a proposed Small-Business Life Science Industry Cluster (SLIC) in the greater Johnstown region.
Led by Richard Somiari, PhD, President and Chief Science Officer, the conversation focused on building a collaborative ecosystem that connects regional health centers, research institutes, academic centers, biotech and defense industry partners. By leveraging regional strengths and distinctiveness —rather than trying to replicate major hubs like Philadelphia or Pittsburgh—this model aims to drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic growth in a rural setting.
