In life science research, clinical studies, and biotechnology workflows, efficient sample storage and reliable nucleic acid recovery are essential. As studies grow in scale and global sample movement becomes more common, scientists need solutions that maintain sample integrity while reducing the cost, risk, and logistical challenges of cold-chain transport and long-term storage.
ITSI-Biosciences developed GenPlate-neu® to meet exactly these needs.

GenPlate-neu is the evolved, automation-friendly version of our original GenPlate technology used since 2006. This upgraded generation incorporates GenSaver® paper—offering enhanced DNA recovery in a high-density microtiter plate format designed for modern labs, high-throughput operations, clinical researchers, and biobanks that demand reliability at scale.

What Is GenPlate-neu®?

GenPlate-neu is a high-density microtiter plate–based system for collecting, storing, and transporting blood and other biological fluids at ambient temperatures. Each well of the plate contains a 6-mm disc of GenSaver paper, a chemically treated macroporous cellulose matrix that preserves nucleic acids by lysing cells on contact and protecting the DNA from environmental degradation.

Originally built with FTA paper, the new GenPlate-neu uses GenSaver, which has all the protective qualities of FTA but delivers approximately 2x higher DNA recovery, giving researchers more material for downstream applications—even from small-volume samples.

Because GenPlate-neu keeps samples stable in a dry state and at room temperature, it eliminates the need for freezing, specialized packaging, or cold-chain logistics. This enables safer shipping, simplified storage, and reliable biobanking for long-term research needs.

How the GenPlate-neu Technology Works

The system is designed for streamlined sample handling and seamless integration into automated processes:

  1. Apply Sample Directly:
Up to 10µl of blood, genomic DNA, plasmid DNA, crude bacterial suspension, or glycerol stock is applied to the 6-mm GenSaver disc.

  2. Immediate Cell Lysis and Stabilization:
The treated cellulose matrix lyses cells upon contact and binds the DNA within its fibers. Bacteria and viruses are inactivated, improving biosafety during handling and transport.

  3. Air Drying:
Samples are dried completely at room temperature—no specialized equipment required.

  4. Seal and Store:
Each plate is foil-sealed top and bottom and can be stored or shipped at ambient temperature without degradation.

  5. Reliable DNA Recovery:
When ready for analysis, DNA is extracted using validated protocols compatible with a wide range of downstream molecular applications.

Each disc yields approximately 100 ng of DNA, sufficient for PCR, WGA, NGS, microarray analysis, HLA typing, genotyping, and more.

Validated for High-Demand Molecular Applications

DNA stored and recovered from GenPlate-neu has been used successfully in:

  • Illumina and Affymetrix microarrays

  • Whole genome amplification (WGA)

  • PCR and qPCR

  • Genotyping assays

  • HLA typing

  • Next-generation sequencing workflows

All current major sequencing technologies can perform deep whole genome sequencing using DNA extracted from GenPlate-neu, making it a versatile and future-ready solution for genomics research.

Designed for Flexibility: Multiple Formats Available

GenPlate-neu is available in several region patterns—1, 12, and the highly popular 24-region layout.

The 24-region GenPlate-neu is particularly valuable for large studies and biobanks because it stores samples from 24 sources, each with four built-in replicates. This ensures backup material is always available for repeat testing, additional sequencing runs, or validation studies.

Any remaining DNA extracted from the plate can also be preserved in an ITSIprotect-DNA tube for long-term use.

Additional features include:

  • Standard 384-well plate footprint

  • Barcode-labeled for tracking and automation

  • Each well preloaded with a 6mm GenSaver disc

  • Compatible with robotic liquid handling systems

  • Foil sealed for stability and contamination protection

Why Choose GenPlate-neu?
